Hey all, I’m a long time Ableton user who is learning Pro Tools for part of my audio engineering course, and I recently got a Behringer X Touch 9 fader with the intention of using it to control both DAWs.

With Ableton Mackie Control mode , it works pretty well but most of the buttons don’t do what they say. I just had to make a few labels. I can use the job wheel to move around in arrangement view and I can switch between both views with the push of a button.

The jog wheel doesn’t seem to affect anything and most of the other buttons don’t seem to do much of anything. Also, my master fader doesn’t map to the actual master fader of the X Touch, instead it maps to a regular fader as if it was a normal track. Is there any way to assign knobs and buttons to controls in Pro Tools like there is in Ableton? Thanks and please let me know if you have any info that could help! My Studio. Unfortunately, Avid’s HUI implementation isn’t all that great. One question: my X-touch came with different labels to put on the buttons to use depending on which DAW you are using.

Does your version have that? In my experience the pro tools version has the button mapping pretty accurate. Mine didn’t come with any overlays or labels, I had to use the extra ones that came with my patchbay smh.

I think the overlays only come with the X touch one for some reason because I didn’t see them in any reviews or unboxing videos of the regular one. My x-touch is a big part of my workflow with logic, studio one, and reaper, as well as with my X32 rack, so I want to be able to use in protools when needed as well. Does it work with pro tools ? Dub til ya drop. Yes it does for me, in the usual ‘limited’ ProTools way.

Haven’t really sussed that yet. Holding down the encoder on a channel shows its Automation mode. When the master light is solid the encoder controls the Mono or Left pan. When it’s flashing you control the Right pan. Can’t control much as far as I can see. The X Touch may well do considerably more, but I simply don’t have the time or inclination to fiddle about. Let me sum up. I use mine mostly on LPX, where it absolutely flies along, and it’s a happy coincidence that Xtouch works on PT at all.

LPX uses Mackie protocol, which is fine. Ben Jenssen. I’m using Digidesign Command 8 Quite a dinosaur, but still works great with PT, simply because it uses midi protocol, I think. I’m looking to figure out point 5 about panning but I don’t understand what the ‘master light’ is and how I can make it blink to control the left pan in the latest PT version.
